What is the Dewey Beach way of life?

First and foremost it is walkable. Most regulars park their cars on Friday and don’t move them again until Monday. The town is one mile long and two blocks wide (except the area north end of town where the town is several blocks wide). You can walk from the Rehoboth Bay to the Atlantic Ocean in a couple of minutes. Boat owners and water sports enthusiasts will love Dewey.

Second, there are more nightlife options per square mile than any other place on the Delaware coast. So, is Dewey Beach a “party town”? Yes, and no. There is no doubt that Dewey attracts a young crowd interested in visiting the many bars and entertainment venues. For a couple dozen nights each year the commercial district can be crowded and raucous – holiday weekends are particularly rowdy. But Dewey has clearly “grown up” over the years and the residential areas are, for the most part, calm and relaxed, even on big weekends.

One of the Turnstone owners has maintained a home in Dewey for 25 years, raising two daughters who have spent every summer of their lives in Dewey. He knows firsthand that there are families and kids everywhere. So, yes, there is plenty for families to love about this eclectic little beach town. 

There is no shortage of activities in Dewey Beach. This Delaware Beach has a 5 Star rating for water quality. There is fishing, parasailing, skim boarding, swimming, and sailing on the water. Dewey offers regular festivals, bonfires, and even outdoor movies on the wide sandy beach. One thing Dewey doesn’t have is a boardwalk and that is fine with those who prefer Dewey to Rehoboth Beach. Having a boardwalk brings lots of traffic into the residential areas whereas Dewey traffic is limited to the main road through town. The Rehoboth boardwalk is easily accessible by trolley

There are only a handful of year-round residents in Dewey so those seeking a real, year-round neighborhood experience should probably explore Rehoboth or Lewes.

DEWEY BEACH VACATION RENTALS

There are a number of accommodation options for visitors here. Dewey-Rehoboth hotel rooms can start around $200 per night in summer, with Dewey Beach vacation rentals, cottages, condos, and homes running up to over $1,000 per night. Slightly less expensive accommodation deals can be found out of peak summer season, but Dewey draws visitors from spring through fall for festivals and beach getaways.
